Ramtha, January 6 (Petra) - Minister of Government Communication , Dr. Mohammad Momani, affirmed Jordanian universities constitute "a cornerstone" in building national awareness, commending their role as national incubators for fostering awareness and developing young leaders.
Momani also said the media is a "key partner in strengthening citizens' trust with state institutions." Momani remarks came during his lecture, themed: "The Media and its Role in Promoting Citizenship Values in Society," organized by Directorate of Military Education and Culture on Tuesday at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST).
Momani, who is also the official government spokesperson, stated the media has become an active tool in shaping public opinion and influencing trends amid the rapid digital transformations and the increasing flow of information.
Warning of the "growing" phenomenon of misleading, false, and fabricated information, he highlighted the shared responsibility to promote awareness and verify news from reliable sources.
Additionally, he called for strengthening Jordanian national identity, cultivating social responsibility and a spirit of youth volunteerism, and instilling the values of cooperation, tolerance, and social cohesion, as fundamental pillars in building modern Jordan and strengthening its social resilience.
Momani urged students to benefit from curricular and extracurricular campus activities to become "active" partners in Jordan's development and ambassadors of the values of responsible citizenship within their university and community environments.
The government, he noted, "prioritizes" youth empowerment and supports every effort that contributes to preparing conscious generations to positively participate in the nation's development and modernization.
Momani stressed the government's "commitment" to strengthening dialogue with youth and listen to their opinions and observations, as essential partners in shaping public awareness and participating in the development, modernization, and reform process.
Concluding his address, Momani and the university students engaged in an extensive dialogue on media challenges in the digital age, and mechanisms for countering rumors and misinformation.
